Dopo tanta attesa e' finalmente uscito Mac OS X Lion 10.7 e nonostante alcune controindicazioni ho subito aggiornato.

Mac OS X Lion e Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 – AggiornamentoIOMEGA STORCENTER IX2-200 AGGIORNAMENTO FIRMWAREAfter much hype Mac OS X Lion 10.7 is finally out and ignoring the warnings I immediately updated. The warnings out there are about the non-compatibility of Lion with certain old programs expecially those written for PowerPC systems that will not work in Lion anymore because Rosetta, the program which made possible for PowerPC apps to run on Intel systems, has been removed.
I had no problems with apps so far, on the contrary this move may prove beneficial by letting me get rid of old and maybe unused programs.
To my surprise the worst problem has been about something completely different.
Like many other people I have an Ethernet NAS from Iomega, the StorCenter ix2-200, an entry level one. Upon rebooting into the new updated operating system, and trying to connect to the NAS, Lion complained.
Apparently the version of the AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) that is installed on the NAS is not compatible with Lion.
To work around this problem, and have access to your data despite the incompatibility you can use another protocol, CIFS (Common Internet File System): that's what I did and it worked, despite some problems. The AFP protocol uses special system files to manage data, and this left me with a lot of misnamed files which are impossible to tell what's in them. The only solution to this is for Iomega to release a new version of the firmware with an AFP version compatible with Lion, which according to Iomega support, which was unaware of the problem, won't happen too soon.
As a reader pointed out, I have not indicated a way to use cifs: in finder, under the menu “Go” choose the item “Connect to server”, then in the window that appears fill in the address field with “cifs://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP Address of the NAS. Then Connect.
This is valid for any NAS that supports CIFS, not just Iomega ix2-200.
Apparently some of the problems with the unit and Lion have been addressed by Iomega with the firmware update… however, I’m having trouble configuring a brand new unit from Lion, apparently without the Storcenter software it’s impossible to configure a unit like this for the first time.
Should I just get someone with a PC to help me out? I just need to configure the RAID, the folders, upgrade the firmware and configure permissions.
By the way, even without the firmware up, I get to see all the folders on the Finder… I use CIF at my job to access some folders, perhaps I’m just accessing them using CIF.
You can configure the unit with the web interface, you only need to know the ip address of the storcenter and the login info that you should find in the manual for a fresh install.
I’m having the same problem. Only my StorCentre isn’t new. I was on windows and then have moved to mac. I can’t connect to it using earthernet and the Manager that Iomega made for mac doesn’t work on Lion. It’s really frustrating as I originally bought it for backing up my files.
Looks like it will end up in the bin – as someone whose not a computer whizz and I’ll never buy Iomega again. It’s alright saying it’s addressed in the latest firmware update but you have to be able to get into the system manager to update and as Lion says PowerPC no longer supported when I try and install the manager – I have no chance!

Sharp thnkniig! Thanks for the answer.
Thanks for this. This at least gives me some access to the NAS.
