Mac OS X Lion and Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 – Update
Following the instructions of an official Apple article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4700) I was finally able to use the AFP protocol again with the StorCenter ix2-200 and with another NAS by Western Digital that was showing the same simptom with Lion.
The solution is simple:
- Open Terminal. (You can find it in the Applications folder and then in the Utilities folder)
- Run the following commands (one at a time, copy/past is perfectly ok, you will be asked for your administration password):
sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1 sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array "Cleartxt Passwrd" "MS2.0" "2-Way Randnum exchange" sudo chmod o-w /Library/Preferences
- Restart your computer.
After following these steps your NAS should be back working correclty with the AFP protocol. For me it worked like a charm.
Mac OS X Lion and Iomega StorCenter ix2-200
After much hype Mac OS X Lion 10.7 is finally out and ignoring the warnings I immediately updated. The warnings out there are about the non-compatibility of Lion with certain old programs expecially those written for PowerPC systems that will not work in Lion anymore because Rosetta, the program which made possible for PowerPC apps to run on Intel systems, has been removed.
I had no problems with apps so far, on the contrary this move may prove beneficial by letting me get rid of old and maybe unused programs.
To my surprise the worst problem has been about something completely different.
Like many other people I have an Ethernet NAS from Iomega, the StorCenter ix2-200, an entry level one. Upon rebooting into the new updated operating system, and trying to connect to the NAS, Lion complained.
Apparently the version of the AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) that is installed on the NAS is not compatible with Lion.
To work around this problem, and have access to your data despite the incompatibility you can use another protocol, CIFS (Common Internet File System): that’s what I did and it worked, despite some problems. The AFP protocol uses special system files to manage data, and this left me with a lot of misnamed files which are impossible to tell what’s in them. The only solution to this is for Iomega to release a new version of the firmware with an AFP version compatible with Lion, which according to Iomega support, which was unaware of the problem, won’t happen too soon.
ADUC – Tlc – Notizia – ITALIA – Accesso siti pirata. Procura indaga provider

Virtual Desktop
We are testing a solution to distribute Linux Virtual Desktops that includes the use of a number of applications including the popular office suite OpenOffice.
For the desktops we use Ulteo a powerful Open Source virtual desktop management solution.
The system works in major browsers with the use of a java applet. This way the desktops are available everywhere there is a computer with access to the internet, without having to install any client software.
If you’re interested in getting a free linux virtual desktop enroll in our testing phase. We will have a maximum of 10 users at the moment, leave a comment and the first 10 people to request a desktop will receive their desktops for free.
